WorkMobile® in Action

Utilities

Student safety of primary concern

The University of Hertfordshire spans across a large educational and residential campus with approximately 23,000 students. Its open-plan style has meant that intruders are able to wander around campus property without fear of being reprimanded as the only areas requiring verification of identity are computer suites and the main university library. The university regards student safety with the utmost importance and eSAY Mobile's advanced mobile technology, WorkMobile®, will help implement a new strategy to keep a strict eye on campus activity, giving reassurance to students of their well-being.

eSAY Mobile's technology will help keep intruders away from a university campus and increase the impact of existing security patrolling its grounds. The customised WorkMobile® software installed on handheld PDAs will be used by twenty security staff to log student offences, scan I.D.s in real-time and circulate data automatically to other PDAs, alerting widely spread staff to incidents immediately.

Instant ID verification

Existing security patrol the university's campus day, night and at student events; however, there has not been an accurate log of incidents and no real way of distinguishing a fake student I.D. from one that is genuine. eSAY Mobile's customised WorkMobile® application supplied on PDAs are connected to the university's student database to scan I.D.s for verification of visual identity and date of birth in an instance. The PDAs are also installed with software to enable security staff log the time and location of when they stopped an individual as well as the type of offence committed by either student or stranger in accordance to university property rules.

Reassurance of protection

Crucially, access to real-time data means security can justifiably take action against intruders without delay. eSAY Mobile's advanced WorkMobile® software also records the number of searches made during patrol which could help boost staff performance. Security staff, armed with mobile technology, will now have the time, tools and incentive to improve efficiency and approach more individuals on campus.
